Gymdex alternatives for people who want a program, not a library.
Gymdex saves workouts from Instagram and TikTok and tracks which muscles you worked; GLEAMO writes the training week those workouts drop into. Gymdex has the longer track record and the ratings to show for it. The difference is whether you want a better library or a plan.
Disclosure: I built GLEAMO. This page names where Gymdex beats it, and GLEAMO is iPhone-only with no free tier — if either of those rules it out for you, the other options below are listed for a reason.
What Gymdex is, and why it deserves its ratings
Gymdex describes itself as the "#1 app to save workouts from Instagram, TikTok & more," and on the evidence it is at least a serious contender for that title. When this page was checked on October 7, 2026, its App Store listing showed roughly 297 ratings at a 4.8-star average and an update dated March 12, 2026. For a single-purpose indie app in this category, that is a real track record, and any page that treats Gymdex as obscure has not looked.
What it does: you save workouts from social video, it organises them, and it tracks which muscle groups you worked on a given day. It is free to download with a premium subscription for the full feature set; the price varies by plan, so check the listing rather than trusting a number here. It runs on iPhone.
What it does not claim to do, anywhere on its listing, is write you a training program. It starts from a workout you have already found.
Where Gymdex beats GLEAMO
Track record. Gymdex has hundreds of ratings; GLEAMO launched in September 2026 and has a handful. If "has this been used by a lot of people without going wrong" is a criterion, Gymdex wins it outright.
Sources. Gymdex advertises Instagram, TikTok and more. GLEAMO takes Instagram and TikTok links, and anything else only as an uploaded video. If your saved workouts live somewhere other than those two, Gymdex's import is the broader one.
Cost of entry. Gymdex is free to download. GLEAMO is a seven-day trial, then $6 a month or $35 a year, with no free tier. If you want to try the save-a-reel workflow with zero commitment, Gymdex lets you.
Muscle-group view. Gymdex shows which muscles you hit on which day. GLEAMO's plan is organised by training day with a reason line, not by a muscle map. If you think in muscle groups, Gymdex's view will feel more natural.
What the two apps are actually for
Both apps accept a reel. The question is what happens next.
In Gymdex the reel joins a library. You can see what you have, what you did, and which muscles it covered. Deciding what to do tomorrow is still yours: you open the library and pick.
In GLEAMO the reel joins a week that already exists. Before you paste anything, GLEAMO has asked about your goals, your equipment (you can photograph it, and the exercise library filters to match) and your injuries, and it has written a training week with a one-line reason on every day. The pasted reel is identified exercise by exercise, each with its own demo clip and assigned sets and reps, and it becomes a session you log, on its own or on a day in that week. You do not pick from a library; the library is the week.
Put bluntly: Gymdex helps you keep what you found. GLEAMO decides where it goes. One of those is more useful to you than the other, and which one depends on whether you already have a plan.

FitSaver and GLEAMO prices checked October 7, 2026. Gymdex, Reellr and Fitbod pricing varies by plan and region. "Builds your program" means the app writes a multi-day plan from your inputs, not that it offers templates.
The other alternatives, honestly
FitSaver, if you want the cheapest paid option with a streak
FitSaver is the closest thing to Gymdex: save and organise workout videos, with completed-workout and streak tracking on top. It has a free tier, a $29.99 annual plan and a lifetime licence. It is the smaller app of the two by review count. FitSaver alternatives are compared here.
Fitbod, if you want generated workouts and do not care about reels
Fitbod has been generating equipment-aware gym workouts for years, with a much larger exercise library than GLEAMO's and a recovery model that GLEAMO does not have. It does not import from Instagram or TikTok. If the program half is what you are after and the reel half is not, Fitbod is the established answer and this page would be dishonest not to say so.
Hevy or Strong, if you want the best logger and will plan yourself
Neither imports reels and neither writes a program, but both log faster and chart better than GLEAMO. If you already know your program, these are the better place to record it.
Who should stay on Gymdex
Stay if you are on Android (GLEAMO is iPhone only, with no web or iPad build); if you want a free app; if you follow a coach's program and only need the videos kept and the muscles tracked; or if a proven app with hundreds of reviews matters more to you than a newer one with a different idea. Every one of those is a reasonable basis for a decision.
Who should try GLEAMO instead
Try it if the library has become the problem: dozens of saved workouts and no principle for choosing between them. If you train with specific, limited equipment and want the plan built from a photo of what you actually own rather than a generic gym. If something hurts and you want the program to route around it rather than leaving you to swap exercises on the fly. And if, when you paste a reel, you want it to become a session you log, rather than one more card in a collection.
Know the trade-offs going in: iPhone only, no free tier, $35 a year after the trial, and a smaller library and far fewer reviews than Gymdex. The plan builder page shows what the questionnaire asks; the import page shows what happens to a pasted reel.
Questions people ask before switching
Can I move my Gymdex library into GLEAMO?
Not in bulk. GLEAMO takes Instagram or TikTok links, or uploaded videos, one at a time. Bring the ones you actually do.
Does GLEAMO have a muscle-group view like Gymdex?
No. GLEAMO organises by training day, with a one-line reason for each day, and logs sets, reps and weight per exercise. If you plan by muscle group, Gymdex's view is the better fit.
Does GLEAMO import TikTok workouts?
Yes. Paste a TikTok or Instagram link, or upload the video, and it comes in the same way.
Is GLEAMO's exercise library as big as Gymdex's or Fitbod's?
No. It is newer and smaller. What it does differently is filter that library to the equipment in your photo and the injuries in your questionnaire, so the plan only contains things you can actually do.
Want the program written, not just the workout saved? Try GLEAMO.
Answer a few questions about your goals, your equipment and your injuries, and GLEAMO writes the week with a one-line reason for every training day. Paste an Instagram or TikTok workout, or upload a video, and it becomes a session you log, on its own or on a day in that week. iPhone only.
